The rapid expansion of security CCTV systems in commercial and even residential locations has produced a vast amount of surveillance video. Unfortunately, many of these systems are of poor quality or inadequately installed or maintained, resulting in what appears to the untrained eye as useless video footage. While some video is so degraded that no amount of processing can improve the image, we can often develop hidden details and obtain dramatic results using the same technology as several Federal and state law enforcement and intelligence agencies.
In addition to enhancing still images from video, Covert Sciences can also process full motion video to adjust lighting and contrast to make additional details visible, stabilize “shaky” hand held video, measure objects in a video frame, highlight objects or persons of interest, and intentionally obscure faces to protect the identity of confidential informants or minors. We can also process audio recordings to remove or reduce background noise, tape hiss, tape capstan noise, and other anomalies to reveal intelligible conversations. Procedures used conform to guidelines established by the FBI Scientific Working Group on Imaging Technologies*.
